Description

Learn one of the latest trail building techniques to create a more sustainable and enhanced trail or trail segment. North Georgia Mountain Bike Association, USFS and IMBA Trail Solutions are offering a two day rock armoring clinic to:

1) Empower and educate volunteers and land managers on how to stabilize steep trails with rock as an alternative to relocating the trails onto lower grades to reduce erosion.

2) Give local trail users the skills to install rock armor that would enhance the challenge level of trails. This clinic will cover rock transport and all types of armoring: including pitching, flagstones, anchors, booters, rip-rap, and preventing erosion. Risk managment, safety, best practices for long lasting rock features and how to avoid shortcuts.

Benefits of Rock Armoring

  • Resource protection through reduced erosion on steep trails.

  • Increased difficulty of certain trails or lines to ensure a diverse trail experience opportunity is available.

  • Develop volunteer capacity to assist USFS with their backlog of trail maintenance.
